Latest News from the Icon Crews!
October 2012
Wow the crews have been on top of their game throughout
October on the Icon Project. Where do we begin to bring you up to date? Here
goes… plenty more workshops have taken place including some really great
Green Screen
sessions with our favourite video artist Dave Marchant.
Thanks to Dave and his
team we were also able to give our crews the opportunity to work with 3D cameras
and special effects, truly ground breaking workshops for our enthusiastic young
people.
The Icon Rocks music
track is now in the can. Massive thanks to everyone involved including Steffan
at Octagon Productions and all his team. We are all so impressed with the
results. The amazing Iconers have written all the lyrics and even performed a
rap which is so cool. Next task is to make a 3D promo music video for the
single which will be shown on our Gala show and awards night at the Gwyn Hall
on January 19th 2013.
Oh yes…..the crews have been to see Shrek the Musical at The
Theatre Royal Drury
Lane London and have been inspired to build their very own
multi media iconic welsh dragon which has been given the name Ffred. Thanks to
Jamie and Michael from Creature Encounter for all their help on this one. Our
guys also paid a visit to Warner Brothers Studios in Watford
to see the making of the Harry Potter films. Wow! What an epic trip…spread
over 2 sound stages they were able to walk the halls at Hogwarts and take a
close up look at all the magnificent animatronic creatures and vast life sized
sets which made the films so popular across the world. I am sure we have many
budding film makers now within our midst for sure!
We are also please to have joined up with NPT Shake and CLIC to provide accreditation for the final part of the project with many of our young people to get stuck into the qualification in video stories.
Huge thanks to Arriva Wales and Literature Wales for Poetry
on a Train with photographs. The crews went off on the seaside route to Carmarthen Library and wrote some great poetry based on iconic
landscapes.
We are so very lucky to be working with some great organisations and partners who are committed to providing the best opportunities for our Icon Crews and of course not forgetting the many volunteers and support staff giving up their time to make sure all goes well.
During November and December the crews will make their own
short film “The Icon Quest” at locations throughout Neath Port Talbot so keep
an eye out for them filming. Also lined up we have a terrific workshop with
Theatr Na’nog and the Iconers have also been invited to take a tour of the set
of Davinci’s Demons currently filming in Margam Park
and their studios on Fabian Way.
That’s it for now….more next month!

June/July/August/September 2012
Phew!.......It’s been a busy few months for the Iconers. As
you will have seen on our social media sites the crews have been to the Wales
Millennium Centre for some great
workshops and a trip to see Sister Act The Musical to see just how a film is re-invented for the stage. Everyone had a
great time and are still singing those great songs. The Iconers also made some
awesome puppets with Jamie and Michael from Creature Encounter some of whom took over our offices.
Video artist Dave Marchant got everyone involved in green screen workshops creating a short piece of film based on their favourite welsh icons.

All the crews have been busy spending time seeing some great 3D films at the Gwyn Hall building up some creative ideas for when they write and produce the Icon Rocks Official Song with a 3D music video. Other trips lined up include workshops and tours at media sponsor Nation 80’s studios hosted by presenter Chris Blumer and all our mates at Nation Radio.
ITV 1’s Britain’s Got Talent finalists Nusxool will deliver very cool workshops at the Gwyn Hall to all our Iconers in December…They cannot wait! Well that’s it for now keep checking us out on Facebook and Twitter for up to date info.
