The Rewrite

Keith Michaels was a successful screenwriter who had everything; from a flourishing career thanks to his award-winning movie, to his idyllic family life. But time has proved to take its toll on the once popular writer. Fast forward 15 years, and his wife has left, he barely has a penny to his name, and his career is on the slide.

As the screenwriter approaches 50, and his once infinite supply of creativity, wit and charm has all but dried up, he is left with nothing but a string of failed attempts to write a new movie. In a moment of desperation, Michaels seeks help from his agent, who puts him in touch with a university in the sleepy, backwater town of Binghamton for a teaching job.

With a dwindling bank account, and his movie career at a standstill, Michaels is left with no other option but to accept the position. Whilst cashing in on a regular salary as he pens what he hopes to be his next big hit, he meets Holly – a single mum working two jobs to fund her degree, who just so  happens to be looking for a second chance in life…

Hugh Grant (Cloud Atlas, Did You Hear About the Morgans?) stars as Keith Michaels alongside an all-star cast including Allison Janney (Juno, The Way Way Back), Marisa Tomei (Crazy, Stupid Love, Cyrus) and J.K. Simmons (Labor Day, I Love You, Man) in this hilarious rom-com about love, life and second chances.
